Design Commune Dog Project
KplusK were invited to participate in The Design Commune to revamp "Le Chien Savant", originally designed by French designer Philip Stark. Our project was inspired by the 1970's British film "Quadrophenia", Johnny & Paul proposed to base the design of Le Chien on Sting's 1940's Lambretta Scooter. In line with the reference, all parts were imported from the UK and many laborous nights and drinks were spent pulling it all together:
Le Chien Quadrophenia !
The blank canvas of the original dog has been transmogrified into a personalised environment with attitude. Paying tribute to the metamorphoses that Mods of the 60’s created for their beloved Vespas, the dog becomes a living interpretation of rebellion, blended with exhuberant, excessive functionality. It is now licensed to thrill, and, quite literally, has grown balls.
KplusK were engaged by iconic Chinese internet company NetDragon to create their new Hong Kong HQ. This project incorporates a Telepresence Room, cat6 network, active touch presentation panels and interactive whiteboards creating a next generation work environment. The HVAC systems of the office were rebuilt using exposed hard ducting to increase the usable height of the space dramatically. The layout integrates open office areas, with more private zones creating a diverse series of workspaces.
14th Factory Exhibition
KplusK are collaborating with Hong Kong based artist Simon Birch on his large scale project, the 14th Factory Exhibition in New York City, situated on No.23 Wall Street, Manhattan. The temporary exhibit, comprising 37,600 sq ft over 4 floors of a prominent corner building, will include a total of 14 separate installations by artists representing a wide range of disciplines, including fashion, performance, painting, film, photography, architecture and graphic design.
Vidal Sassoon Academy
KplusK associates have recently completed Phase 1 of the Vidal Sassoon Academy in Shanghai. As a means to consolidate their existing premises in Shanghai and to revitalize a rundown urban area, they relocated to a disused watch factory in Xing Gardens. Designed with a raw, industrial aesthetic, the 2000 sq. m. space uses a limited palette of materials and finely engineered, high quality components.
KplusK associates provided a ‘cutting edge’ exterior façade that aims to become instantly recognizable. The frontage is designed as a simple, angled white sheet that folds around the building edges and has a diagonally cut fringe on its front face. Illuminated signage brings the building to life in the evening. Phase 2 of the project is beginning now and will feature a state of the art oxygen tent at roof level that will provide clean air for its students.
KplusK are proud to announce their appointment to create a new church and residential tower for in Kennedy Road, Hong Kong.
As the fifth iteration of the Union Church in Hong Kong, the building will comprise of a five storey podium with main Sanctuary space to hold a congregation of 500 people, and a 19 storey residential and institutional use tower above
In what is a legacy project for KplusK and for Hong Kong, we are drawing references of the second and third iterations of the Union Church, previously built in Staunton Street and Kennedy Road using technologically advanced systems for the times.
KplusK look to create a continuum of innovative solutions for the creation of sublime, spiritual environments as a reflection of the Churches historically progressive commitment , and the Environment in which we live.
